The School Based Counselor provides behavioral health services within a multidisciplinary primary care medical team. The SBC works with the other health care providers at their clinic to identify and manage patients with mental health, substance use, and health behavior concerns. Activities include the provision of evidence-based behavioral interventions, real-time consultation with providers, and brief behavioral health assessments. The therapist works in partnership with other team members to increase patient access to behavioral health and substance abuse services.
Essential Responsibilities:
Provide behavioral health care including diagnostic evaluation, psychotherapy and case management services to children and adolescents in a school based clinic setting. Modalities include individual, family and group psychotherapy. Provide behavioral health treatment to children and adolescents experiencing symptoms that interfere with their academic progress and social/emotional functioning in the school or home environment.
Complete accurate and timely documentation in the patients medical record including initial intake, diagnosis, treatment plan and progress notes. Maintain patient electronic medical charts in accordance with the organizations policies and procedures.
Communicate and consult regularly with multidisciplinary team of School Based Health Clinic providers regarding patients progress and to development of appropriate treatment plan for the patient. Attend and participate in all required meetings including clinical consultations.
Work closely with school staff including teachers, administrators and school counselors to improve academic performance of students. Provide groups and classes to the school community regarding social and emotional health. Adhere to evidence based practice standards and quality metrics.
Train other program personnel as necessary in treatment protocols, evidenced based practice and treatment plan development.
Provide high quality, culturally-sensitive health services that are in line with organizational productivity expectations.
Provide brief behavioral health assessment and intervention services for patients across the lifespan (children, adolescents, and adults) who present with a broad range of psychopathology, substance misuse, and health compromising behaviors contributing to chronic medical conditions.
Maintain a balance of same-day access to BH services, and a caseload of scheduled follow up patients.
Support PCPs and consulting psychiatric providers with regard to psychiatric medications, including basic patient education and helping to monitor adherence, side effects and effectiveness.
Work with the primary care team to refer patients to community mental health centers when appropriate, and support patients during transition.
Facilitate time-limited behavioral therapy groups, including psycho-education and skill-building.
Work in cooperation with other behavioral health staff, including peer consultation and information sharing.
Work with clinic reception and other support staff to maximize patient access to behavioral health services.
Coordinate care with staff at community mental health centers to facilitate exchange of information on services and shared patients.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
Minimum three (3) years of experience providing mental health diagnosis and treatment for children and adolescents.
Education
Masters degree in psychology, social work or a related discipline.
License, Certification, Registration

We are hiring for an Behavioral Health Specialist who will be located at our Seattle branch. THS, in collaboration with LIHI, (Low Income Housing Institute) seeks to improve the lives of those living in LIHI operated tiny home villages within our community. In our work with LIHI, we have seen safe, secure, dignified shelter for those who have been living outside combined with on-site behavioral health services as a stabilizing first step in the transition out of homelessness. In addition to supporting individual residents in their mental health and/or substance use disorder recovery, by providing de-escalation and crisis management services we are able to help make the villages safer places for all residents and help villages to be good neighbors in the areas where they are sited.
The pay range for this position is $68,000 - $70,077/annually DOE.
Requirements:
Provides on-site brief intervention, de-escalation and crisis management and recovery support at designated LIHI-operated Tiny Home Village.
Becomes a visible, stable and accessible presence at assigned Tiny Home Village.
Through progressive engagement, works with Tiny Home Village residents to identify and begin to address mental health and substance use issues which may present barriers to long-term, stable housing.
Collaborates with on-site LIHI staff to respond to resident incidents and support resident compliance with Village rules and standards of behavior.
Offer individual and group counseling sessions while residents are in ideation (pre-enrollment) phase.
Performs Mental Health intake intakes/evaluations and collects and processes psycho-social data from residents for purposes of clarifying treatment goals and establishing preliminary diagnoses that may be required to access housing or other services.
Provide a warm handoff to THS staff for residents who wish to pursue formal Mental Health or Substance Use Disorder Treatment.
Ensures prompt, accurate clinical documentation including treatment plans, progress notations in assigned participant files; preparation of treatment contracts, letters, referrals, discharge summaries of terminated participants as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in social service field required.
Current Washington State Counselor credential or current professional licensure is required. MHP credential preferred.
SUDP/T is a plus.
At least one year experience providing counseling, case management, and group services to individuals and their families.
Previous experience working with homeless or unstably housed individuals is a plus.
Experience in working with multi-ethnic populations in outreach, de-escalation, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution skills.

The Behavioral Health Specialist II - School-Based Health Clinic is a senior member of the collaborative care team located at one of ICHS’s School Based Health centers. This position will work from an integrated behavioral health model, providing a broad spectrum of culturally appropriate services, including completing behavioral health assessments with standardized behavioral and health risk screenings, providing group, individual and family psychotherapy, help with case management, and make referrals to students with behavioral health/academic needs. Additional indirect services will include providing consultation services to the primary care providers and the school staff, consulting with psychiatry, making psychoeducational presentations to staff and students about behavioral health, and providing liaison services between school staff and primary care providers. Education -Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field.
Experience - Three (3) years’ experience working with individuals with a disability; the elderly, mothers and children, and/or other high risk groups. Job Definition:
The Mobile Response Team (MRT) provides 24/7 mental and behavioral health services at Health through Housing (HtH) facilities and targeted Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) sites across King County. The primary goal of the program is to provide in the moment crisis behavioral health services and time-limited behavioral health case management via mobile intensive response teams for the purpose of assisting individuals in becoming aware of behavioral health and other community service options. The MRT is a mobile interdisciplinary team consisting of certified peer counselors, behavioral health case managers, substance use disorder professionals, mental health professionals and Narcan waivered medical staff.
Peer Specialists will work with an integrated team responding to crises, meet with residents to assist in their recovery and success, lead recovery groups, and participate incase consultation and treatment planning.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In response to and cooperation with PSH and HTH staff, perform timely outreach services to individuals needing crisis intervention services, assessment, referral, and linkage to needed services.
As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, provide multi-axial assessments, chemical dependency assessments, crisis intervention, stabilization and meaningful engagement for adults
Establish and implement a plan to successfully engage clients in relevant services and other resources.
As needed, provide follow-up services aimed at establishing linkage to services for program participants.
Facilitate recovery groups at housing sites
Complete all data collection and documentation required of the MRT Project and DESC in a timely manner.
Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with traditional & non-traditional programs/services providing services for the population served.

Assist residents with voicing their interests and goals through a variety of channels including: Goal Plans, Crisis Plans, WRAP, and other methods of expressing individual preferences for their recovery goals.

Integrate personal experience with mental health concerns and substance use disorders into work with program participants.
Work collaboratively with Peer Specialists across all DESC programs to grow, learn, develop with and from one another through sharing personal experiences and professional development.
Comply with applicable program research and evaluation procedures.
Comply with the all-agency policies and procedures, and relevant titles of the Washington Administrative Code and Revised Code of Washington.
Advocate for clients' access to both traditional and non-traditional community resources and services, ensuring that clients' needs are met, and rights maintained; consult and collaborate with community providers & resources to ensure continuity of care.
Participate in psychiatric consultation, supervision, program meetings and in-service trainings; participate in clinical reviews and case conferences for clients on caseload.
Participate in verbal de-escalation in emergent situations and be able and willing to assist other staff as needed to maintain a safe, secure environment.
Promote integration through DESC and the community at large.
Provide individualized, recovery focused plans/ services that will help with management of recovery better.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Lived experience as a consumer of behavioral health services (mental health and/or substance use treatment) or be the parent or legal guardian of a child who has received behavioral health services.
Ability to obtain Certified Peer Specialist certification from the Washington State Peer Counselor Training Program within 60 days of employment.
Ability to meet Washington Department of Health requirements for registration as an Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) or any other superseding credential
Interest in working with clients who are difficult to engage and maintain in traditional mental health/substance use disorder programs.
Ability to drive an agency or personal vehicle to conduct agency related business. A current Washington State driver's license and insurable driving record are required.
