This summer we are working with the MIT RAISE Initiative once again to host a very exciting 6-week AI program called the MIT FutureMakers Create-a-thon! This program runs from July 1st through August 8th, 2025 and will bring together students from across the US to help them develop skills related to AI, applied machine learning, app development and entrepreneurship through a virtual program led by mentors. We would love to have YOU as a mentor to help high-school or early college students learn app development skills while you also get the chance to be trained in MIT's AppInventor platform --- all while getting paid for your efforts! Your responsibilities will be to: As part of a two-mentor team, you will train, support and encourage a small group of ten to twelve students as they develop App development skills and AI intuitions using the provided AppInventor curriculum. Day-to-day, interact with your group of trainees through daily meetings. Help them use those skills to build a larger project to complete the program. Keep your group accountable for finishing their prior day's tasks. Help unblock them when they are stuck by pointing them to resources, showing them how to debug code and/or giving them helpful hints to discover the answer on their own. The curricula for the program will be provided and you will be trained in the AppInventor curriculum and in being an effective mentor. Requirements for applicants Currently enrolled or recent graduates from Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields; Passionate about teaching and mentoring younger students; especially invested in mentoring students from underserved backgrounds in science and technology; Or have current/recent experience with middle or high-school school STEM teaching; Excellent communication, time-management and teamwork skills. Able to commit to 12-15 hours per week from July 1st through August 8, 2025 You must be available to lead live sessions during the window of 12pm - 4pm ET Mon-Fri. Able to commit to AppInventor Training from 12:30-5:30PM ET from June 18-30th, Mentoring Across Differences training from 5:00-6:30PM on June 9-11th. Program and Roles Summary: Perform duties related to assisting teaching staff with planning, coaching and implementing educational activities for children from ages 0- to 5-year-olds in Ada S. McKinley's Child Development Program, complying with state Early Learning standards and federal performance standards from the Office of Head Start (OHS). Mentor and coach teaching staff. Observe and assess classroom activities. Participate in ongoing monitoring of the educational component of the Child Development Program. Reports To: Education Director Principal Duties/Responsibilities: Support the teaching staff with planning, organizing and implementing the preschool education curriculum. Monitor lesson plans including nutrition activities, individualization, small and large group, and environmental checklists. Prepare and maintain work related reports and files; assist with facilitating the process of gathering monthly and annual program information and reports; assure accuracy of the content of such reporting. Enforce and implement safety procedures for environmental, child safety and confidentiality in all programs. Adhere to the Head Start performance standards, Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) childcare standards and all accreditation requirements. Maintain documentation of all site monitoring visits following the program's established monitoring process. Attend meetings as directed and maintain written minutes for Education Meetings. As a Mentor Guide in this two-tiered, cross-age Mentor-in-Training program you help provide high school students with the tools, resources, and confidence to provide mentorship to elementary school-aged youth. The Experience of Service as a Mentor Guide: In collaboration with the Guided Mentoring team, you will focus on engaging and supporting around 5-10 high school mentors in the curriculum and practices of the Guided Mentoring program. You will help plan and facilitate lessons and activities which are fun, play-based, and help youth dream big. These activities will be delivered through weekly school day classroom programming and/or afterschool programming, as well as occasional out of school time adventure experiences. Our objectives include helping to prepare high school youth to have effective, impactful mentorship relationships with elementary age youth, and provide opportunities for them to strengthen and expand their sense of place, identity, and meaning and purpose. These will help each high school mentor to be prepared, trained and ready to provide a safe and culturally appropriate experience to elementary school aged mentees. You will ensure, primarily through curriculum lessons, activities, and reflections, that high school mentors have a strong understanding of the four curricular themes: mentoring, identity, sense of place, and meaning & purpose. You will facilitate development of high school mentors organizational and time management skills. You will communicate with mentors weekly. You will help ensure that thorough communications and dialogue with DREAM youth and their families support them in having agency and influence over their DREAM experience.
